About Us
“To express and foster the awareness of our cultural and musical heritage in the community through concerts and other performances with our creative choral works.”
The CKC, Colorado Korean Chorus, was formed in 2005 by a small group of local choral enthusiasts in the community. Since then, the CKC has established itself as Colorado’s long-standing Korean community chorus. The CKC’s mission is to “elevate the cultural and human experience through choral excellence to the community and to its membership”. The CKC has matured over the past 18 years, pursuing excellence for a heightened level of choral music awareness, and touching the minds and hearts of the Colorado cultural community.
Under the artistic music director, Dr. Taehyun TAD Kim, the CKC has had seasonal concerts and choral seminars for the community to provide quality choral music awareness. The CKC is eager to have the opportunity to serve the community with good music and passion. The CKC has established a great reputation for their performances (Messiah and Dixit Dominus by Handel, Coronation Mass by Mozart, Glory by Rutter, Ceremony of Carol by Britten, etc.) from the choral enthusiasts in the cultural community by consistently producing great impressions with its Korean choral repertories, diverse cultural resources and music performances.
In 2012, for our 7th annual concert, the CKC invited an acclaimed composer, Young-Jo Lee, from Korea and performed his works integrating Korean traditional musical elements with Western musical techniques. From this venue, the CKC received great accolades for showcasing eclectic Korean cultural music. In 2015, the CKC celebrated its 10th anniversary with a great impression of work called “Arirang” which is the most popular Korean song in the traditional folk genre. Since 2018, the CKC has been reaching out to local high school students and providing the opportunity for them to audition and perform in our concert with the CKC Festival Orchestra. The CKC also has an outreach program where we provide visiting concerts to various venues in the community: performing in the SCFD Showcase day at Denver Botanic Gardens, performing in local nursing homes, and also collaborating with other choral groups in concerts, and collaborating with One World Singers in Denver Cultural Festival.
In the fall of 2021 at the tail end of the pandemic, CKC held a concert, themed “Wings of Hope”, recognizing the first responders and frontline health workers for their dedication and hardship working through the difficulties of pandemic; The CKC accomplished a milestone with a great outdoor concert, in an event tent facility, at the Pinery Golf & Country Club.
The purpose of this concert was to appreciate and recognize the first responders and frontline health workers for their efforts in working through the pandemic challenges.
CKC held a concert, themed “Korea remembers You”, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, and honoring the war veterans and their families for their sacrifices, and also recognizing the rest of the current and retired veterans from the community for their services. In addition to outreach performances to the community, the CKC has been performing various forms of collaborative concerts with diverse choral groups, sharing, and enlightening the great musical experiences and elevating the cultural diversity to the community.
